Parent/Pupil Maths

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us today for our whistle-stop tour of our Maths learning! We hope you enjoyed it! Our presentation:

A super start with our writing skills!

The adults are very impressed with how our writing skills are developing!  We always have paper and pencils available for free drawing and writing (we are sure you see lots and lots of pictures in your child's bookbag!) but we have upped our adult-led writing so that children are taking part in: - daily handwriting sessions - daily spelling sessions in Phonics  - guided writing sessions where we write words or captions. These are dictated, using only GPCs that they know. This is to develop confidence and sentence structure - they have to 'hold' the phrase which is much harder than it sounds! Those of us who have got a good pencil grip and the beginnings of letter formation are spelling and writing with a pencil. Some of us are using the moveable alphabet whilst these skills develop. Children love paper and pencils - if you haven't already, get some pads of paper and pencils! handwriting practise a caption spelling using the moveable alphabet captions writing /th/ words ...

Year 3/4 Cross Country

Image
A very wet and cold meet at Colchester Sports Park for our Year 3 and 4 Cross Country team, who have been training hard at our weekly running club. The resilience and sportsmanship shown in such poor conditions was commendable and Miss Hunn and Mrs Brown were incredibly proud of the children.  All of the team came within the top 50 runners with an exceptional 6th place for Molly! We don't have many pictures as it was so wet, but here is one of some of our boys team!

PE on a chilly day!

Image
Year 5 took advantage of a rare dry day for a lively PE session on the astroturf. We started with a trust game where randomly selected partners guided each other backwards before changing it to a co-operation activity. All the children in both classes did brilliantly with unfamiliar pairings getting down to work with each other.

Sewing!

Image
Our first DT lesson! We have been learning to sew using a running stitch!  This took a lot of patience and resilience, but we got there and the children were thrilled to have been introduced to what was a new skill for many!  We learnt that we needed to thread the wool through the 'eye' of the needle and that we would be practising our running stitch on 'Binka' Not many pictures as Mrs Brown was busy re-threading needles and tying knots, but enjoy!

Estimating on a number line to 20

Today we explored where numbers are placed on the number line.  We recalled our past stem sentences to reason and discuss where numbers should go using more and less.  We also practised writing the numbers!
