Reception have been making Cool Cats! Following on from their previous lessons on warm and cool colours,  Reception children have made a cat collage made of only cool colour paper. They practised their cutting skills by drawing around templates and cutting out the different body parts.  We discussed the different ways of assembling the cat components to change the pose. Then the children used cool colour pens to add the features. They truly are COOL CATS!

Year 6 - Pop Art inspired by Roy Lichtenstein 6L have been learning about the Pop Art movement. They studied the works of Roy Lichtenstein and his use of bold bright colours. The children created their own poster compositions, incorporating popular modern figures and shading with Ben-Day dots like the comic books of the time. They look fantastic 6L - well done!

Year 3 - Waterlilies, inspired by Claude Monet The children studied the Impressionist paintings of Claude Monet. They used squared paper and a selection of cool colour paints to create the dappled surface of the water. They concentrated on keeping their brushstrokes in one consistent direction, to imitate the flowing movement of the surface. Next they drew decorative patterns on filter papers, using warm coloured oil pastels , which they washed with pink watercolour to make their lilies. They repeat this with green shades to make their lilypads. Once dry, they assembled the pieces to make a fantastic wall display of their collective art. The children have also been glazing their clay ammonites which will be on display at our school Open Evening. Here is a sneak preview at the magical transformation inside the kiln . Before firing ... After firing...

Chelmsford Cathedral Pop-up Art Exhibition   We are delighted to share that our Year 5 children were invited to participate in a pop-up art exhibition at Chelmsford Cathedral.  The exhibition's central theme was 'Creative Courageous Advocacy,' it required the students to employ their artistic talents in addressing issues of injustice and driving change through heightened awareness. This coincided perfectly with the introduction of our new Sustainability Council at the school. So we chose the topic of biodiversity and the far-reaching impacts of deforestation on animals.  Some of the children took charge of researching the subject matter and delivering a presentation to their year group. Following this, the class crafted visually captivating posters depicting animal habitats before and after deforestation.  The original habitats of the animals were artfully rendered in vibrant oil pastels, while the use of charcoal effectively portrayed the burning and clearing process that

Year 4 has been making viking braids using a cardboard tablet. First they selected 7 colourful threads and attached them to a cardboard circle with 8 weaving slots. Following a simple repeating procedure, they continually repositioned the third thread into the empty slot, whilst rotating the tablet each time. Once they settled into the procedure, they quickly saw a beautifully braided rope appearing in the centre of the circle. When the braid was long enough to wrap around their wrist, they removed it from the tablet and knotted it to make a bracelet. They looked fantastic and the children really enjoyed making them.
