World Book Day - Year 4

Image
Today in Year 4, we celebrated World Book Day by sharing the story Tuesday by David Wiesner. It was a really interesting book to look at and discuss as it was mostly pictures. We discussed the pictures and thought about what was happening at different points in the story. Our first task was a recount task. We planned and then wrote a recount as if we were one of the main characters in the story. We had to think about our senses and describe using effective details and description. For our second task, we created our animals that could as in the story there were frogs flying on lily pads.  We used a range of colours and details when drawing our animals. Finally,we were then created  a list poem which described the features of our created creatures.

A Magical World Book Day!

Image
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day at school this year. Our theme was adjectives , with children and staff coming dressed as a wide range of descriptive words. From sparkly and sporty  to mysterious and colourful , the costumes brought language to life. Throughout the day, children took part in fun activities exploring how adjectives help make writing more vivid and interesting. Our whole-school focus book was Tuesday by David Wiesner. The children enjoyed analysing the unusual story and interpreting the detailed illustrations, using their imaginations to describe what was happening in each scene. To bring the story to life, the school was decorated with flying lily pads , inspired by the frogs in the book. It created a magical atmosphere and made the day even more memorable. Thank you to all the families who helped make the costumes so wonderful. It was a brilliant celebration of books, language and creativity!

Instructions (Jam Sandwiches)

Image
In English, we have been learning to read and write our own instructions.  On Friday, the children followed instructions about how to make a jam sandwich.  They even came up with some great imperative verbs for each instruction such as spread, put and eat.  Today, they wrote their instructions.
