Chelmsford Cathedral Pop-up Art Exhibition

We are delighted to share that our Year 5 children were invited to participate in a pop-up art exhibition at Chelmsford Cathedral.

The exhibition's central theme was 'Creative Courageous Advocacy,' it required the students to employ their artistic talents in addressing issues of injustice and driving change through heightened awareness. This coincided perfectly with the introduction of our new Sustainability Council at the school. So we chose the topic of biodiversity and the far-reaching impacts of deforestation on animals. Some of the children took charge of researching the subject matter and delivering a presentation to their year group. Following this, the class crafted visually captivating posters depicting animal habitats before and after deforestation.

The original habitats of the animals were artfully rendered in vibrant oil pastels, while the use of charcoal effectively portrayed the burning and clearing process that deprives the animals of their homes.

The quality of artworks produced by Year 5 was truly impressive, and we took great pride in submitting a sizable selection of pieces to the exhibition.

The exhibition is running for three days this week and the children had the opportunity to visit the Cathedral and see the display firsthand.

This was a fantastic experience for the children, allowing them to appreciate the impact of art with a compelling message and to view the entries of other schools within the Chelmsford Diocese.

The afternoon was delightful, and Mr. Taylor and I were truly proud of the children's informed engagement with the exhibited art.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the parents for their support in bringing the children to the Cathedral, with special appreciation extended to Tilly for her representation of the Sustainability Council and her spirited explanation of our theme.

It was an inspiring afternoon, and the children were already discussing ideas for next year’s entries.
