Changes to Nursery sessions for class N1 starting in September 2025

As you may be aware the Government has been increasing entitlement to free nursery funding for more people, and many more parents are now entitled to 15 or 30 hours free nursery funding per week for their 2 year olds.

I would like to help parents to be able to use their ‘full’ entitlement, and in order to achieve this we have decided to alter the provision of nursery hours we offer class N1 children starting in September to enable parents to be able to do this.

Currently, individual whole day (6 hour) sessions are offered to class N1 pupils. This means that they can only use 12 hours of the 15 provided, unless a payment is made to to up to 3 full days.
From the Autumn term, class N1 hours are being brought into the same format as class N2. Rather than split into 6 hour individual day sessions, as they have been up to now, they will be split into 15 hour sessions.

(The cost for the nursery care for 2 year olds remains the same per day as it was previously, but the cost is now given as a total session amount rather than a day rate.)

Option 2 hours for pupils in class N1 will start at 12.15pm and finish at 3.15pm which is slightly different to class N2, to allow a streamlined and safe drop off and collection from the nursery bases. (When children arrive at 12.15pm on a Wednesday they will start their day with lunchtime.)

When children move from class N1 to N2 they will be able to have the same hours as they had in N1 and therefore moving forward no new application form will be needed for class N2 for N1 pupils.

By making these changes it also means consistency for working parents when children move through the nursery classes.

Existing N1 pupils have been allocated hours for September based on the pattern of hours that they already attend Kelvedon Academy Nursery where possible.
