Spellings and reading

Reading

Most children will now be choosing a text from the class or school library.  We will continue to change books on a Tuesday - All children are asked if their book needs changing and any other time should they ask and we they are ready to move on.

Spelling

The children were not set spellings before the half term as we felt it was important for the children to have a break and we had many families on holiday.

Last week's spellings were inline with our current phonics teaching, which last week was 'wa' as in watch.  Having nearly completed the level 6 sounds we felt it would be beneficial for the children to recap the sound and apply it.  We will continue to do this each week, with our new sound or suffix.  When spelling cards come home, any incorrectly spelt during our weekly test will be highlighted also.

Spellings have not been sent home this week as we have our assessment week next week.  During this time, the children will complete a spelling test and we did not want them becoming cognitively overloaded when they will already have lots to think about 😊

Phonics

Our focus this week is 'tion' as in 'station'
