Weekly Round-Up 5.6.26

Some parents have said that the Rhino Reader texts are not working online; we read the Rhino Reader several times at school so please read their blue book and other reading book instead.

The first week back is done. Only 6 more weeks left in Reception! The children enjoyed Break the Rules Day: RJ were on fire in Phonics, so maybe we need to break the rules more often...(just kidding!)

Story focus: the teachers have been reading some of their favourite stories this week.

We have daily Phonics and handwriting sessions.  We have a Literacy session where we discuss a picture, compose sentences and then write them.  We also have individual reading sessions, practising our blue Phonics book or reading books.

Maths focus:  subitising. We used a new maths tool this week: a rekenrek!  We practised 'one push' of amounts. There are 5 red beads and 5 white beads. We pushed 1,2,3,4 and 5 and recapped the 1 more and 1 less pattern. We enjoyed using the rekenreks!

PE focus: Country Dancing

Understanding the World/PSED focus: the cycle of seasons and changes in the Summer. We read a story called Tree: Seasons Come, Seasons Go which had some lovely illustrations about the the seasonal changes.

" The temperature changes"
"You can play outside more"
"The sun is out longer"
"The bugs like it"

We always enjoy COOL Time (Choosing Our Own Learning) and we practise lots of skills during this time.
