Year 6 Languages Day

Year 6 had a fantastic time celebrating Languages Day! We explored different languages and cultures through a range of fun, creative and exciting activities.

We started by writing French letters to pen pals, practising our French vocabulary and sentences while learning how to introduce ourselves, share information and ask questions. We also enjoyed reading part of Diary of a Wimpy Kid in Turkish, discovering how familiar stories can sound completely different when translated into another language!

We then travelled to Germany by creating our own German café menus, learning new food and drink vocabulary and designing colourful menus. We also listened to German covers of well-known English songs, seeing if we could recognise the original songs while hearing them in a different language.

To finish the day, we listened to songs from around the world and became language detectives, trying to identify the language being spoken and guess which country it came from. It was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the diversity of languages and cultures around the world.

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed discovering that languages can be found everywhere — in books, music, food and everyday communication! 🌎🎶📚
