The Lighthouse keeper's lunch

Image
Our text this week is 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'.    By the end of next week, we are going to be writing instructions for getting lunch to Mr Grinling in the lighthouse. After reading and exploring the text yesterday, today we used role play to 'act out' parts of the story.  We 'performed' different instructions in small groups, orally retelling using imperative verbs and key vocabulary whilst also 'acting'.

Equal groups

Image
On Wednesday, we explored recognising when groups are equal or unequal.  We practised looking at groups, splitting numbers into groups and then recognising if they were equal. On Thursday, this learning was extended into adding equal groups. We came up with a checklist to ensure our counting was accurate. 1.Check the groups are equal.  2. How many equal groups? 3. How many in each group? 4. Count! (in 2s, 5s or 10s)

Netball Match - Away to Home Farm 16.04.26

Image
Today we played our second match for the CPSL league.  A second team went and absolutely outdid themselves.  This was the first time that this team had played together on the court against a strong team.  The defensive skills and amazing teamwork shown showed every ounce of 'The Kelvedon Way'.  Every team member showed resilience and respect, listening carefully to feedback from Mrs Connelly and myself and moving forward with gusto and determination. The game ended with a 6-0 loss, but the score didn't matter.  The team should be very proud of themselves and hold their heads high, ready for their next match.

Now that Spring has sprung, there are flowers and blossom all around, it's time for Nature Club to start again. We've has a great start; remembering the Countryside Code, looking at our bug hut installation from last year and discussing the amazing Camera Trap organised for the school by Miss Lucas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKWyWMBJT8U Mr Hopegood :)

Please see below the creative homework for Summer 1.  Children should complete a minimum of 4 creative homework tasks by Monday 18th May 2026. Kind regards,  The Year 4 Team.

History

Yesterday in history, the children were introduced to our new topic 'London'.  Mr Ladlow and Mrs Brown couldn't believe the amount of facts that the children knew about London.  They could tell us that London was the capital city of England and name many famous landmarks such as: The Shard, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and many more.  For their activity, they were tasked with building some of these landmarks.

Year 4 - Cardboard for D&T Project

Good morning, We are planning to create small Roman catapults as part of our D&T learning within our Roman Topic. As part of this, we need to use cardboard. If you have any cardboard at home you could spare, this would be greatly appreciated by The Year 4 Team. Cardboard that you find from Amazon boxes would be work really well. Kind regards,  The Year 4 Team.

Year 4 Summer 1 Spelling

Image
Year 4 Spelling -  Summer 1 In the picture below, you can see the weekly focus for this half term and also a list of some of the words that match the learning. It is important that the children do not try to memorise these words. They are learning the rule and how to use the phonic skills of segmenting and blending to help them to spell. The Year 4 Team

Dentist Visits

Image
This morning, we had a visit from some friendly dentists who taught us all about how to keep our teeth clean and healthy. The children learned how to brush their teeth properly, why it’s important not to rinse after brushing so the toothpaste can continue protecting their teeth, and that we shouldn’t wet the toothbrush before brushing.  We also talked about how sugary foods and drinks can affect our teeth. Some of the quantities of sugar in snacks we eat everyday were surprising! Next week, the dentists will be back carrying out hygiene checks for the children if you have given consent. Please do check that you have received this.
