Today in PE, the children were learning how to correctly jump, balance and climb on apparatus. They now know how to perform and execute a standing two foot jump.

Year 4 Spellings - Spring 1

Image
Year 4 Spelling -  Spring 1  In the picture below, you can see the weekly focus for this half term and also a list of some of the words that match the learning. It is important that the children do not try to memorise these words. They are learning the rule and how to use the phonic skills of segmenting and blending to help them to spell. The Year 4 Team

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Welcome back to our Spring Term!  It has been so lovely to welcome the children back into school and hear about their Christmas breaks!  Lots of stories to tell and memories made! We also want to take this opportunity to say a big 'thank you' for the wonderful and thoughtful gifts we have all received.  More importantly,  the kind and thoughtful messages.  It means a lot to us all. Our Autumn Term in year 1 was full of 'firsts', lots of 'light bulb' moments, inspiring conversations, questioning, some incredibly mature responses to each other and a building of the understanding that we are all unique and wonderful.  We worked hard to understand and live by the values of our school and ended the term with some incredibly proud adults around us! Term Ahead documents will soon be sent to all, providing an overview of our learning this term. Thank you for your continued support, The Year 1 team

The Lion inside

Image
This afternoon, we read the story of ' The Lion inside '.  From this we discussed our whole school focus this half term of 'courage'.   Our conversation led to things that we 'can't do... yet' and also things that we can do already.  We gave some lovely, thoughtful affirmations to each other as we looked into the 'mirror', just like the little mouse in the story.

Maths - Count within 20

Image
Today we explored numbers up to 20.  First we counted, then we matched objects and amounts.  We were challenged to reason why we thought amounts, using a tens frame and manipulatives. We then learnt about estimating .  In small groups, we had to estimate the number of objects and then count them, finding the easiest way to present the manipulatives in order to count them!   After this, we used the vocabulary of ‘tens’ and ‘ones’ to understand the value of each digit in a teens number! Lots of Learning completed practically!

Thank you!

Happy New Year everyone! As we start a new term and new year, we would just like to take the opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you for the cards and gifts we were given for Christmas. They were much appreciated! We hope you have all had fabulous festive periods and wish you all the best for the new year.  Kind regards The Year 6 Team

Thank you so much for the cards, delicious treats, lovely gifts and beautful flowers - we love them all!  It is very kind of you to treat us to such lovely things.  We hope you have a good break over Christmas - enjoy family time together and take time to rest and recuperate after a (very!) long first term. See you in 2026!

Paired Reading

Image
Yesterday in guided reading, the children were paired reading. They did really well at this.  One person is the pointer who points to the words and the other person is the reader. They then swap over.

Year 4's Creative Homework

Image
We had a great time talking about and sharing our pieces of creative homework. We spoke the things we enjoyed about the homework and gave each other some lovely feedback. It was clear to see that everyone had worked so hard creating some amazing pieces of work- well done!  We would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your Chritmas wishes, cards and gifts, and we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!  The Year 4 Team.

Dotty Four - A Maths Game

Image
In RJ, we have been playing a maths game called Dotty Four. This helps us to practise the parts that make 4 (2 and 2, 3 and 1). You take it in turns to roll a 1,2,3 dice and draw that many dots in a square in the grid. The aim of the game is to get 4 dots.  So if you roll a 3, you draw 3 dots. Then the other team has a go. If they roll a 1, they could draw it in the same box to get 4. If they get a 2 or 3, they would have to draw the dots in another box. Miss Johnston got lots of 4s yesterday, but today RJ got the hang of it! __ is a part and ___is a part, the whole is 4. If you want to play it aty home, here a link to show you how to play Dotty Six (very similar!).  https://nrich.maths.org/problems/dotty-six?tab=overview

A surprise party!
