Today in English, the children were introduced to instructions.  They learnt that instructions are a set of rules that someone must follow in order to make or build something.  Some instructions have: numbers, imperative (bossy) verbs and pictures.  The children were telling instructions to each other. 

 This week, our spelling pattern is:  Words with endings which sound like /shuhl/ after a vowel letter This includes words such as: special artificial social racial crucial facial beneficial superficial antisocial official

 In year 4 today, we have had a busy last day. We were excited to join a virtual meet and greet session with James Davis. He is a children's author who writes sci-fi books about a girl called Scarlet. It was great to hear him speak about his inspirations for story writing and he even shared some top tips with us. After lunch, we then had a chance to share our creative homework. There were some fantastic pieces of work on show. Below are photos of just some of the pieces:

Apologies for the lack of photos - our Ipads have been used for assessments! As part of Year 5s learning about the Windrush, we were all treated to a fantastic performance of a steel pan band in Collective Worship.      Story focus : The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We read and retold the story. Literacy focus : we have daily Phonics and handwriting sessions.  We have individual reading sessions, practising our blue Phonics book or reading books. Some of us have started writing captions, 'holding' the phrase and then writing it with fnger spaces - quite tricky! .  Maths focus:  comparison. ____ has more than ____ ____ has fewer than ____. They are equal. They are not equal. PE focus : we had our last gymnastics session. Our safe jumping and landing has improved enormously and we are more confident to climb and balance.  Science focus: recapping the changes in winter PSED focus : our visit to St Dominics to see the residents.  We always enjoy COOL...

 Yesterday in year 4 we discussed internet safety day. We spoke about how to stay safe on the internet and the things we could do. Also, we spoke about the use of AI and how useful this can be for many people. Then, we discussed the dangers of AI and how people must this technology safely. Finally, we had a try at creating and designing our own safe AI apps.

We were a bit late for the Big Garden Birdwatch, but this week RJ did some bird watching on our school field.   We had learned that birds are animals with feathers and wings;  are very good builders because they build nests; and that some birds go on holiday to hotter places when it is our Winter.  We went out in the morning and had to be quiet. We looked up and saw quite a few different birds. One day, we heard lots and lots of tweeting and singing. We saw p igeons, doves, seaguls, a robin, blackbirds, sparrows and a red kite ! The kite was gliding in the air.  Have a look in your garden and see what you can see!
