In this season of mists and mellow fruitfulness we have been looking for some of the potential inhabitants of our nascent insect home. Armed with nothing but a British insect identifier our intrepid bug botherers looked under all the really rotten logs in the Eco Area. 10 out of the 20 species were identified!

Maths In Maths, we have been 'finding the part' using a range of manipulatives to 'prove it'. We have been finding the missing part using part-whole models, bar models and number sentences. ____ is a part, ____ is a part, The whole is ____ We then extended our learning to use our knowledge of part whole using subtraction. We know the whole number and one of the parts, but have to find the missing part using subtraction. WHOLE - PART = PART The following video shows you and idea of how this can be represented. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qc_T5jcesY We can also represent this using bar models, multilink and 'breaking' away a part to see the remaining number, and number sentences. Science In Science, we have been learning about ourselves! This week, we looked at our eyes and what each part of the eye does! Weekly Round-Up 13.11.25
We have started daily handwriting sessions. We are working on using a three finger pincer grip. We follow letter families, for example this week we have been writing r, n and m as they follow similar movements. S tory focus : Along Came A Different by Tom McLaughlin Maths focus: counting, 1:1 correspondence; growing 5 (on our fingers) and representing 5 in different ways. We learned the '5 Little Peas in a Pea Pod Pressed' song and used a 5 hand and Hungarian Frame. PSED and Understanding the World focus: why we celebrate Fireworks. RJ also learned about Remembrance Day and looked for the Tommy solider displayed outside. PE Focus: games We always enjoy COOL Time (Choosing Our Own Learning) and we practise lots of skills during this time.
