S tory focus : Once There Were Giants by Martin Waddell We have daily Phonics and handwriting sessions.  We have a Literacy session where we discuss a picture, compose sentences and then write them.  We also have individual reading sessions, practising our blue Phonics book or reading books.  Maths focus: the number system . We verbally counted beyond 20; identified the 'stopping number' (cardinal principle); counted things that cannot be seen or tagged (abstraction principle); developed strategies to keep track of what has and hasn't been counted (e.g moving into a line, moving objects as they are counted). PE focus : In RW, Country Dancing. RJ's hall slot was being used so we practised some skills for Sports Day. Understanding the World/PSED focus:  recapping life cycles and identifying the life stages of a human (baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, elderly person). Our story was a lovely way of showing the stages of life and we really enjoyed reading it....

Year 1 D&T Space Story

Image
For the last two Wednesday afternoons we have been making moving pictures linked to our Space Theme. In these fabulous pictures the rocket, or flying saucer, can be moved up and down while the moon is able to spin around. The pictures have been used to make a Voyage story which the children will finish in our next session. I've heard some great rocket noises when the children have explained their story plans. Mr Hopegood :)

Netball glory! Home against Home Farm

Image
Tonight we played a friendly game against Home Farm.  We wanted to give the children in the club who had yet to play a match a chance to experience the skills we have been learning in real time.   This was the first time the girls had played together as a team and after a slower start, warming up and finding their feet, we stormed ahead and won 3-2! An amazing game, watching how the girls pulled together, marked their players, communicated and supported. Here's a picture of the team sporting their new netball t-shirts! Well done!

Year 5 Cricket

Image
Year 5 have continued their cricket skills lessons with our final stage before progressing to playing matches. We have continued to use a rotation system to ensure that each person got at least one over of bowling and one over of batting, please see below. As you can see from the pictures following, the children were keen, good sports and great cricketers.

Beth Chatto Gardens

Last Monday, Year 2 had the fun of going to Beth Chatto Gardens. We learnt all about the gardens, saw some helpful pigs, collected nature to create a postcard and even got to plant our own herbs. The children all loved the activities, in particular the bug hunting and potion making. Here are some photos of our day.
